PORTLAND — Infielder Rafael Devers, outfielder Danny Mars and pitcher Teddy Stankiewicz of the Portland Sea Dogs were named to the Eastern Division All-Star roster for the Northeast Delta Dental EL All-Star Game on July 12 in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Devers, ranked the No. 1 prospect in the Boston Red Sox’s system by Baseball America, has now made All-Star teams in each of his first four professional baseball seasons.
Devers, in his 66 games at the Double-A level, is hitting .291 with 14 home runs and 45 RBIs.
Mars leads the Sea Dogs and ranks ninth in the Eastern League with a .311 batting average. He has reached base safely in 49 of 61 games.
Stankiewicz, Portland’s opening-day starter, is 2-3 with a 4.42 ERA. He has struck out 55 batters and walked 18. He has made eight quality starts in 13 appearances.
Sea Dogs 5, Fisher Cats 1
PORTLAND (AP) — Rafael Devers hit a pair of solo home runs and drove in three runs, and Kevin McAvoy allowed just three hits over six innings as the Portland Sea Dogs defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-1 on Wednesday.
McAvoy (3-5) allowed one run while striking out six and walking one to pick up the win.
Portland started the scoring in the first inning when Devers hit a solo home run.
After Portland added three runs, the Fisher Cats cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Ryan McBroom hit an RBI single, driving in Richard Urena.
The Sea Dogs tacked on another run in the seventh when Nick Longhi hit an RBI single, driving in Chad De La Guerra.
Sean Reid-Foley (4-6) went six innings, allowing four runs and eight hits in the Eastern League game. He also struck out six and walked two.
New Hampshire missed a scoring opportunity in the seventh when Urena struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
With the win, Portland improved to 4-2 against New Hampshire this season.
