STETSON TOWNSHIP — A Phillips woman is accused of stealing more than $10,000 from Grant’s Camps on Kennebago Lake in Penobscot County.
The owners of the camp reported on Wednesday that Deborah Vitrano, 35, manager of the business, had been making out unauthorized checks and making unauthorized withdrawals from the business account since November 2016, according to a Maine State Police release.
Trooper Eric Ward took the theft complaint Wednesday from the owners of Grant’s Camps.
Troop Detective Reid Bond interviewed Vitrano at the business in Stetson Township on Sunday.
She was then arrested on felony charges of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and forgery.
A conviction on the theft charge is punishable by a maximum of 10 years in prison and $20,000 fine while a forgery charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
“The total amount believed to be stolen from the business well exceeds $10,000,” according to Bond.
Vitrano was being held Monday morning on $5,000 cash bail.
