BETHEL — Franceska Halloran and Maddy New each had 18 points to lead the Hebron Lumberjacks to a 42-40 victory over Gould in the MAISAD girls’ basketball championship game Wednesday.

It is the second straight season Hebron defeated Gould in the MAISAD championship game

Gould was down 13 points but made a come back with 4:30 remaining. The Lumberjacks (12-7) missed nine free throws in that stretch. Gould scored seven points in the final 10 seconds.

Priscila Berdeja led Gould (8-3) with 20 points with Kayley Cadet scoring 10.

Boys’ hockey

St. Dom’s 4, Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse 2

AUBURN — St. Dominic Academy netted three goals in the third period to claim a 4-2 boys’ hockey win over Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse at Norway Savings Bank Arena on Wednesday.

Will Fletcher scored the Saints’ first and final goals, the second coming on an empty net.

Noah Austin scored for the Eagles (7-11) in the first period, and Sam Alexander gave Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse a 2-1 lead in the second.

Jacob Lewis tied the game and Mack Pelletier put St. Dom’s (8-10) ahead in the third period before Fletcher’s empty-netter.

Meader tabbed as NAC Coach of the Year

FARMINGTON — Dick Meader, who is in his 24th season at the helm of the UMaine-Farmington squad, was named the North Atlantic Conference’s men’s basketball coach of the year.

Meader led the Beavers to their best conference record (10-8) since the 2012-13 season, and improved the team’s league record by seven wins from last year. The Beavers earned the No. 5 seed in the NAC Tournament after being selected to finish tenth overall in the preseason coaches poll.

College baseball

Bates 13, Caltech 6

PASADENA, Calif. — Sophomore Daniel Trulli homered and drove in five runs to lead Bates College to a 13-6 victory over Caltech in baseball action Wednesday afternoon.

The Bobcats (2-2) scored six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. With the game tied at five entering the top of the sixth, junior Asher MacDonald reached on an infield single to start the frame.

Senior co-captain Ryan McCarthy followed with a signle to left, and first-year Kyle Carter drew a walk to load the bases.

With the bases loaded and nobody out, senior John Dinucci singled home a pair of runs to put the Bobcats up 7-5. Senior Brendon Canavan continued his hot start to the season with a triple to the left-center field gap, clearing the bases and extending the lead to 9-5.

Immediately after Canavan’s triple, Trulli stepped up to the plate and crushed his first collegiate home run. Trulli’s blast put the Bobcats up 11-5.
