WEST KENNEBUNK — The Animal Welfare Society, through its Cleo Fund, will offer low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for cats belonging to income-qualified residents of Oxford County.

Cats will be spayed or neutered, have a wellness exam and receive a rabies vaccine for a $20 co-pay.

These veterinary services are offered at a very reduced fee thanks to a grant from the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation.

“Spaying or neutering is one of the most important things a pet owner can do for their pet,” said Marie O’Brien, AWS Cleo Fund coordinator.

“It reduces or eliminates a number of bothersome behaviors. Male cats that are neutered are less likely to spray, roam or fight. Female cats that are spayed do not go in and out of heat and don’t produce unwanted litters.

“Cats that have been fixed live longer, healther, happier lives,” she said.

Interested individuals may contact the  the AWS Cleo Fund to see if they qualify and to schedule an appointment at a participating veterinary clinic in Oxford County.
