Summer Meals Program volunteer sought
PARIS — United Way of Oxford County is seeking a skilled volunteer to help organize the 2017 Summer Meals Program in the Oxford Hills area.
The Summer Meals Program provides a healthy free lunch to all children 18 and younger.
The volunteer would be responsible for organizing meal sites, coordinating volunteers for the meal sites, meal preparation, and overseeing food inventory over the summer. The Summer Meals volunteer will work closely with the sponsor of the Summer Meals Program, United Way of Oxford County, to ensure all meal standards and reports are being met.

Blessing of the Sleds Saturday
MEXICO — The 20th annual Blessing of the Sleds will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, at Mountain Valley Middle School.
The actual “Blessing” is at noon, but food will be available from 10:30 till noon.
There will be raffle items, a poker run (inside), and a 50/50.
This event is held every year and is the major fundraiser for the Mexico and Dixfield snowmobile clubs to earn money for trail safety.
Star Teachings of TEA
TURNER — A community gathering of Star Teachings of TEA dedicated to practicing kindness will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at Bear Mountain Botanicals, 419 Turner Center Road, Route 117.
The gathering is in circle format, where everyone is invited to share their stories, wisdom and questions in the space of openness and receiving.
Temple Historical Society open house
TEMPLE — The Temple Historical Society will hold an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. on the third Sunday of January, February and March in the Archives Room at the Temple Town Hall.
The next open house will be Feb. 19.
The public is invited to research or just going through the archives accumulated over the years; members will be available to assist.
The monthly meeting of the Temple Historical Society will be held at 3 p.m., and guests may attend.
World’s Greatest Sleigh Rides
LISBON FALLS — The World’s Greatest Sleigh Rides will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at 400 Main St.
There will be many horses, mules and minis, with sleighs giving rides through fields and woods.
This is a charity event for Pine Tree Society’s handicapped summer campers.
Cost to attend are donations $5 or $3. The snack shack will be open.
Two-year old Abigail Parent, of Sabattus, pets a miniature horse at the Worlds Greatest Sleigh Ride in Lisbon Falls on Sunday. Abigail’s grandmother has horses, but they haven’t been able to visit and see the horses much this winter, so she was itching to see some, Abigail’s mother said.
