DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anyone reupholster chairs in the Rumford area?
— Paul, no town
ANSWER: Sun Spots reached out to the River Valley Chamber of Commerce to check their membership roster, but they weren’t aware of a local upholsterer. However, there is an upholstery stop pretty close to you — in Bethel.
Bennett’s Upholstery, which has been in business nearly 30 years, is on Mechanic Street. The phone is 207-824-2336.
A little farther away is Alan Osborn Upholstery on Main Street in Sumner, a third-generation upholsterer with a wide service area. The phone there is 207-388-3177, or write to Rosemari Osborn at roz@megalink.net
Sun Spots has also recommended these shops in the past:
* Decorating Plus, Gray, 207-784-0173, 207-657-8103
* Hill’s Upholstery 346 Lewiston Road, Topsham, 207-725-2485
* Leo’s Custom Auto Upholstery, 300 Cressey Road, Monmouth, Lbeaudin50@yahoo.com, 207-782-3822
* Maine Correctional Center in Windham, work done by inmates learning new skills, 17 Mallison Falls Road, Windham, ME 04062, 207-893-7000.
* Mary’s Upholstery, Route 196 in Topsham, 207-353-7638, recovers living room sets, chairs, boat cushions, snowmobile seats, etc.
* Maine Stitch Upholstery, 40 York St. in Bath, 207-729-4612, recovers home furnishings, commercial upholstery and also makes slipcovers. It does not do leather refinishing.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have 4½ cases of unopened Osmolite 1 Cal, a case of feeding bags (which are sealed) and a Joey Pump set.
Hospitals will not take them. I would like to donate to anyone who could use them.
My phone is 782-3154. Leave a message on the answering machine. Thank you.
— Jackie, no town
ANSWER: That’s a very generous offer. The Osmolite food supplement costs more than $40 a case and the Joey Pump is a top-of-the-line piece of equipment.
Please let us know if you’re able to find someone to use these items.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing to let you know about a very honest man.
I took my car to SureStart Remote Start Specialists in Lewiston and about an hour later I received a call from T.J. to tell me my car would not cost me the stated amount of $229. It was only $40.
He informed me he found a car starter already in my car and all I needed was the remote.
Had he not been honest, he could have charged me the full price that he quoted and I would have never known the difference.
If anyone needs a car starter installed, see T.J. at SureStart. He will treat you fairly. Thank you.

ANSWER: Thank you for your note. Most businesses and their employees are honest but seldom get the praise they deserve. It was very nice of you to take the time to highlight such good service.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: We would like to thank the kind gentleman who paid for our lunches on Monday, May 22, at Dick’s Restaurant in Mexico.
We do hope he reads your column so he will know how deeply touched we were by his kindness.
— Thank you from the five of us, Rumford
