BATH — Mountain Valley capitalized on Morse’s mistakes in a 3-1 victory in the teams’ Class B South preliminary contest on Tuesday.

Mountain Valley (12-5) scored in the top of the first inning and twice more in the top of the third, ann unearned.

The Falcons plated the first run of the game in the top of the first. Morse (11-6) tied the game at one in the bottom of the first on a Taylor Shaw RBI single.

John Pepin earned the save after he got himself into — and out of — a jam to start the seventh. The Shipbuilders loaded the bases with no outs, but Pepin was able to shut the door. He struck out two batters in a row and a groundout ended the threat and the ballgame.

Hunter Ames recorded the victory, going five innings while striking out five for his sixth win of the year. He’s now 6-0.

Telstar 14, Old Orchard Beach 11

BETHEL — Kylee Martin had a big game for Telstar in a 14-11 victory over Old Orchard Beach in a Class C South preliminary game.

Martin recorded the victory, going the distance in the circle. She also helped her own cause in the bottom of the sixth inning — her three-run triple scored the game-winning runs to give the Rebels (8-7) a 14-8 lead. She had three hits in the game.

Josie Forbes had a pair of hits, including a double and had two RBIs for Telstar. Luci Rothwell had a pair of hits.

Telstar’s big inning came in the second. The Rebels reached base six times via walk and scored seven in the inning.

Zoe Young brought the offsense for the Seagulls (3-14) with a two-RBI double in the top of the fourth, part of a four run inning. She had three hits in the game. Eryca Leclerc had a pair of hits in the game.

Greely 6, Poland 0

CUMBERLAND — A Madison Rawnsley grand slam in the bottom of the first helped Greely to a 6-0 victory over Poland in a Class B South preliminary game.

The Rangers (10-7) picked up insurance runs in the third and fifth innings.

Sarah Walton’s double was one of two hits for the Knights (6-11).
