BRUNSWICK —
Drug agents say the men were getting the pills by mail and then selling them.
Agents arrested 45-year-old Benjamin Steers, of Topsham, and 35-year-old Scott Crone, of Freeport.
Steers was charged with trafficking in schedule W drugs (Oxycodone) and Crone was charged with the illegal importation of schedule Z drugs (Valium) and violation of conditions of release
On Wednesday, agents searched Steers’ residence on Riverview Drive in Topsham.
Police say over 4,000 pharmaceutical pills, including Oxycodone and Valium, were seized along with steroids and a loaded handgun.
The seizure followed an investigation into the illegal importation of pharmaceutical drugs through the mail.
Drug agents say the pills were ordered by Crone from foreign countries and delivered to Steers’ home.
The drugs would then be sold throughout Sagadahoc and Cumberland counties.
Steers was arrested and taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset where he freed on bail.
Crone was located and arrested in Freeport. He is being held at the Two Bridges Regional Jail without bail because of a prior domestic violence charge.
The street value of the seized pharmaceuticals is $30,000.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely.
