AUGUSTA — Police in Maine’s capital city say they’re investigating after a Facebook page resembling the department’s actual page posted several fake news stories.
The Augusta Police Department says in a release the page looks nearly identical to its real page.
Deputy Chief Jared Mills says it has posted several fabricated stories, including one about a mother killing her three kids and another about a family of five killed in a car crash.
Police are trying to get the page taken down. They say it has several less postings, likes, and activity.
