1932 – 2016
AUBURN — Annie May Charpentier, 84, of Lisbon, passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Hospice House in Auburn, with family by her side.
She is survived by her husband, Roland Charpentier Jr., and six children with spouses, David and Joanne Charpentier, Joan and Michael Laskey, Marie Anne and Scott White, Elizabeth and Richard Hunt, Carole and Bruce Baldwin and Sandy and Robert Wheeler. Her surviving brothers, Harold and Donald White, and sister, Harriet White, have remained caring siblings until her death.
From the time she was born March 16, 1932, to Harold and Addy White, Annie lived a life surrounded by family. She was blessed with a large and loving family: six children, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Being a mother came early in her life and gave her the greatest joy. A baby in her arms knew no greater peace or comfort. Her children and their families will carry on many traditions that she taught them throughout her life.
Annie’s talents inside the home included sewing and knitting clothes, cooking homemade meals and delicious baked goods, caring and nurturing pets of all sorts, quilting, stitch by stitch, miles of thread for heirloom quilts given to those she loved. Her talents were vast and exceptional, always thinking of the health and comforts of her husband and children.
Outside the home, Annie could often be found with friends and family canoeing on a river, bowling on a team, stitching with the quilters club, swimming at the YWCA, cross-country skiing over hill and dale, hiking through parks and trails, picnicking at lakes or just outside enjoying the scenery wherever she was. She loved nature, especially hummingbirds that visited her window feeder daily. Annie’s flower and vegetable gardens were always filled with color and food for the table. Annie has passed her green-thumb gardening skills and appreciation of watching life grow from seeds to all of her children. One of her best friends was her springer spaniel, Jake, whom she loved dearly and treated like a king.
But the king of all kings and best friend of all is her husband of 67 years, Roland, or Dad, as she called him. He loved her from the moment he met her, and the story of the “sweater” will live on forever. He gave her a good life and offered her the most she could wish for, a loyal husband and devoted father to their children. She will always be the “most beautiful woman in the room” to him and he will always walk hand-in-hand with her, in mind, body and soul.
