1935 – 2016

AUBURN — Charles E. Shaw, 81, of Auburn passed away at the Clover Nursing Home on Wednesday, Nov. 2, where he had been a resident for the past 8 months, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston on March 12, 1935, one of 11 children, to the late Vernon and Bertha (Hope) Shaw. He graduated from Lisbon High School, Class of 1954, and then went on to Work at U.S. Gypsum and retired from General Electric after 30 years. After retirement he worked 8 years for United Ambulance Wheelchair Service as a driver. He enjoyed gardening and working outside, taking walks, decorating for the holidays and playing cards. He truly enjoyed attending ALL of his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.

He married Barbara (Greaton) Shaw on July 5, 1958, in Auburn and together they raised three wonderful children, Deborah Shennett of Lewiston, Steven Shaw and his wife, Kathi, of Lewiston and Michael Shaw and his wife, Tomika, of South Weymouth, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Matthew Shaw, Ryan Shaw and his girlfriend, Ashley Cloutier, Tyler Shennett, Brian Shaw, Faith Shaw, Andrew Shaw and Megan Shaw; sister, Mildred (Shaw) Neeley and her husband, Frank, of Buffalo, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Joyce Payne of Bangor; and brother-in-law, Roy Kimball of Turner; two very special sisters-in-law and their husbands, Shirley and John Hunt and Connie and Tom Robinson; his two very special cocker spaniels, Corey and Lucky; and many, many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, John, Vernon and George; and sisters, Sadie, Madeline, Ruth, Helen, Dorothy and Mary.

The family thanks Clover Manor Nursing Home and the Androscoggin Hospice House for their attention and special care they gave to Charles and the family. Special thanks to Libby, Arlene from Clover and Margaret, and Mona from Androscoggin Hospice House.
