What is the most pressing problem in your district and what do you plan to do about it?

The closing and downsizing of paper mills have eliminated good-paying jobs. In my rural district natural resource jobs are crucial and need to be expanded. We need to encourage new jobs in the areas of forestry, farming and tourism.

Gov. Paul LePage wants to eliminate the state income tax. Do you support that? If not, why not?

I would have great concern that the elimination of the state income tax would put great pressure on the property taxes, which are too high already. In going door-to-door, that was of great concern to them.

Are you willing to support raising the fuel tax to fix Maine roads? If not, why not?

I would first try to find other revenue within the budget to accomplish this. Our roads and bridges are in poor shape and we need to fix them to increase the economic base in rural Maine.

The relationship between the governor and the Legislature has deteriorated over the past six years. What can the Legislature do to improve that relationship?

There are two branches of government, and I would hope that the governor, within the next two years, would work with the legislative branch to move Maine forward.

What methods do you support to reduce opiate addiction in Maine?

We need to better monitor prescription drugs and make the penalties for dealing and selling stiffer.
