What is the most pressing problem in your district and what do you plan to do about it?

Lewiston suffers from a lack of quality housing and a near stagnant economy. It is my intent to work diligently to reduce state meddling, bureaucracy, taxes and fees. Less government is better government.

Gov. Paul LePage wants to eliminate the state income tax. Do you support that? If not, why not?

Yes. Income is not a luxury and not something law-abiding citizens can do without. It is a driving force in our economy and should not be “punished” by a tax. I would work to reduce the tax burden of hard working Mainers any way I could.

Are you willing to support raising the fuel tax to fix Maine roads? If not, why not?

I am not willing to support any new or increased tax that is not coupled with the elimination of an equal or greater tax elsewhere.

The relationship between the governor and the Legislature has deteriorated over the past six years. What can the Legislature do to improve that relationship?

While I feel our governor is often an embarrassment for our state, the fact remains that he was re-elected by the voters. The Legislature needs to take the high road by doing its job the best it can and not lower itself to mudslinging and petty games.

What methods do you support to reduce opiate addiction in Maine?

There is no easy solution. However, legalizing marijuana would provide a safer alternative to the addicts and a better economy would eliminate some of the motivation for drug use.
