Long-awaited renovations to the Lake Auburn Towne House will begin within the next couple of months now that the Auburn Housing Authority has been awarded a modernization grant from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. A total of $274,000 from HUD will be added to $40,000 provided by the housing authority, said Executive Director Richard Whiting. Whiting said residents of the elderly housing facility on Lake Auburn Avenue have been anxious for modernization to begin, but often elderly housing takes a back seat to family housing when HUD doles out money.
