NEW GLOUCESTER (AP) — A pair of Maine organizations will expand sports programs for disabled veterans with the help of federal grants.
Carlisle Academy in Lyman will receive more than $50,000 to grow the number of veterans it can serve with adaptive riding and para-equestrian programs, and other programs related to horses. The academy offers hippotherapy, a kind of rehabilitative treatment involving horseback riding.
Pineland Farms in New Gloucester will get more than $65,000 to continue offering adaptive sports to disabled vets. The farm offers activities such as skiing, biathlon, tennis, snowshoeing and fishing.
The money is from a Department of Veterans Affairs Adaptive Sports Grants.
