BELFAST (AP) — Law enforcement officials in Waldo County are warning the public about a potentially potent supply of drugs in the area that is the suspected cause of two deaths.

The sheriff’s office and police in Belfast say the deaths of two males in their late 30s in recent days are under investigation. The police say there are “strong indications” the deaths are drug related but that official causes of death have yet to be determined.

The police say residents should be wary what could be a “particularly potent” supply of drugs that may be laced with fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is far more powerful than heroin.
