DEAR SUN SPOTS: Once again I need the “low down” and I know just where to go to get it. Someone went through a lot of time and expense to beautify the corner of Randall Road and Sabattus Street. Who did it? And, any future plans to develop this lot to more than a lawn? — Gene, Lewiston

ANSWER: According to the City of Lewiston website, the two lots on that corner, 803 Sabattus St. and 2 Payne St., are owned by Steven Bosse in care of Derek Dube of Lake City Exports. Lake City Exports is a used car dealership and has a location just across the street at 797 Sabattus St.

Sun Spots reached out to Bosse for more information and, even though there were some vehicles parked there for a short time, there are currently no plans for that space.

For the foreseeable future, the neighborhood can enjoy the nice new grassy view.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the last few days I lost a silver key ring while I was out shopping. I’ve contacted both Shaw’s markets, and both Goodwill stores without success. I had a hard time getting through to WalMart last evening but will try again today. The key ring is from Weight Watchers. It’s horseshoe shaped with little round end pieces. It holds several Weight Watchers achievement charms. I’ve worked very hard to earn those charms and I’m quite heartbroken that the key ring is gone. I have a new achievement charm to add to it and that’s how I realized it was missing. If someone out there has found it, please let me know, 576-2519 or janbarrettme@gmail.com. DEAR SUN SPOTS: National Constitution Day is Sept. 17. The Founding Fathers ratified the Constitution on this day in 1787. A federal law passed in 2004 requiring that all schools receiving federal funding provide a course to all students on the Constitution of the United States on Constitution Day. The law is known as H.R. 4818, and the text is found in section 111(b). 

The law was passed with the urging of then Senator Robert Byrd (D-W. Va.), who is remembered for always carrying a copy of the Constitution with him in his pocket.

All of our public and private schools are urged to observe this law and give our Constitution at least this one day of national observance. Some schools have a special assembly, but most just incorporate a Constitutional lesson plan into their normal class day.

In conjunction with Constitution Day, The Optimist Clubs of Lewiston/Auburn, Gray/New Gloucester and the Tri Town Optimist Club of Minot, Poland, and Mechanic Falls are making available to any interested schools or students free pocket-sized Constitutions that can be used in the classroom. Quantities are limited and will be given on a first come first served basis.
