MILLINOCKET— Maine authorities say a group of more than 40 people collaborated to carry to safety a 20-year-old hiker who was injured while descending a Baxter State Park trail.
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry says the hiker is a Lakeville, Connecticut, resident who fell and was hurt a little less than three miles up a trail. She was left unable to walk.
Park rangers treated the hiker and she was then carried back to Katahdin Stream Campground where she could be taken by ambulance to Millinocket Regional Hospital.
The rescue effort took nearly 10 hours and included members of Maine Association of Search, the Maine Forest Service and others.
Authorities have not identified the hiker. They say she was leading a hiking group based in Nobleboro.
