AUBURN — National paint retailer Sherwin-Williams plans to target homeowners and do-it-yourselfers with a new Center Street location.
Company District Manager Scott Herlin said the store should be opening in September at 445 Center St., which previously housed a Pizza Hut.
It’s part of the company’s 150th anniversary, he said. The company already has a store at 1168 Lisbon St. in Lewiston and plans to keep it open as well.
“What we are gearing to in Auburn is the typical do-it-yourself customer and the people doing projects themselves,” Herlin said. “The Lewiston store caters more to professionals and the industrial market.”
Contractors are already working to convert the building.
In a press release, manager Owen Hill said a September grand opening will feature giveaways, food and prizes. The store will offer 1,500 colors of paint, wallpaper collections and tools, as well as on-site delivery, color matching and advice and assistance.
Herlin said the national brand is looking raise its profile in Maine.
“We are growing as a company in the state of Maine,” Herlin said. “We’re not looking to close any stores. We’re trying to invest back in the communities.”
