Earlier this spring, public works crews were out in force cold patching potholes in your area, but it’s more likely that the heaviest of traffic you experienced this construction season so far was the result of crews working on the Summer Street Extension, which was completed a few weeks ago. Though this work was on the east side of Auburn, large trucks may have used Hotel Road as a route to transport materials for the project. As for future construction plans near you, a grant application is out for the replacement of culverts on Hotel Road at the Taylor Pond crossing.

Just remember, as annoying as the noise is now, it sure is nice to drive over well-maintained roads instead of playing dodge-the-pothole or paying for front-end work on vehicles.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing in regard to the column in the Saturday, June 11, paper pertaining to the person in need of an 8-track player. I have one I would be willing to give to that person. I’m not sure if it still works, as I no longer have tapes. I can be reached at (207) 782-4465 if that person is still in need of one. — No Name, Auburn.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Let me first send a big “thank you” to all your readers who have already been so generous in donating blankets to patients at CMMC. It means so much to our patients to receive this warm, comforting donation. As this is so important to our patients, it will be an ongoing project.

I am reaching out once again for volunteers to make blankets to be given to patients in the hospital who are spending time away from loved ones. When patients appear to be in need of some extra TLC, a blanket helps provide comfort and warmth. Blankets should either be lap size, approximately 30 inches by 30 inches, or a twin bed size, and can be knit, crocheted or made from fleece. We are mostly in need of blankets for adults. Blankets may be dropped off at the information desk at the main entrance, 60 High St., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you have any questions please contact Laurie McGilvery at 330-7463. Thank you for helping us to provide comfort to patients in our community. — Laurie, No Town.
