RAYMOND (AP) — Maine State Police have launched an investigation after a toddler died after taking a nap.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/2qsnF1Y ) reported the 16-month-old boy was a foster child of a couple operating a day care center in Raymond.
A public safety spokesman says the child had been ill and was put down for a nap Tuesday. Someone checking on the child saw he was unresponsive and called 911.
The spokesman says it is standard procedure to investigate the death of a child under 3 years old.
He says he does not know what illness the child had, or how long the child had been with the foster family.
An autopsy on the child by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was scheduled Wednesday.
