DEAR SUN SPOTS: Calling all boys and girls — it’s Forestry Museum Woodchip Contest Time.

The Maine Forestry Museum (formerly The Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum) invites every girl and boy aged six to eight to sign up for the Little Miss and Mister Woodchip Contest to be held on July 29 at 7 p.m. at the Forestry Museum grounds located at 221 Stratton Road, Dallas Plantation. The Woodchip program is part of the Museum’s 36th annual Logging Festival, being held on July 29 and 30.

Contestants may sing a song or recite a poem; they may choose a favorite or write their own. (Other performances, such as dancing or playing musical instruments, will not be accepted toward the competition). Every Woodchip contestant receives a prize. Winners will ride in the Little Miss and Mister Woodchip float in the Forestry Museum parade on Saturday, July 30, and be introduced at the Festival immediately after the parade.

To enter children in the contest, please contact Liz Pimentel (917 836-1632).

This year we have something special to add to the evening’s events. The fabulous clogging group InClogNeato will thrill the audience with their dancing after the contest.

The Maine Forestry Museum, located at 221 Stratton Road, is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about the museum and its events, call (207) 864-3939 and visit the museum’s Facebook page or website, http://rlrlm.org.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Due to me being of a certain age, I have definitely outgrown my stuffed animals. Is there an organization where I can donate them? Also, I have about one dozen wigs that I no longer wear. They do need a little TLC before they are used. Thank you. — C, Norway.

ANSWER: Let’s hope some organizations who might use these types of donations respond, but in the meantime, try some of these avenues:

Check with some local day cares, homeless or emergency shelters about whether they might accept your donation of stuffed animals.

The Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing participates in the American Cancer Society’s Wig Bank and accepts donations for patients who experience hair loss due to cancer treatment.
