MEXICO — The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday approved the purchase of a Western Star plow truck and chassis for $67,250, including a $14,000 trade-in.

The winning bid was submitted by Daigle & Houghton of Herman.

Town Manager John Madigan is also looking into quotes for new and used sidewalk plows, as well as leasing costs. There is about $190,000 available in the highway equipment account.

In other business:

• Selectmen approved spending up to $950 to have LJ Belanger of Rumford repair the concrete steps between the Town Hall and the library. Madigan said the work will be completed this week.

• Selectmen tabled action on approving expenditures for the Recreation Department until June, when selectmen have more information on cost estimates for projects. Those projects include a new gym floor, a soccer field, a new waterline into the recreation park and additional equipment for the new snack shack.

• Madigan announced an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 23, at the Region 9 School of Applied Technology. Students will show their work to the public.

• Selectmen met in executive session on a personnel matter with town librarian Heather Rogers.
