As a former teacher, I admired the work that had gone into the proposed Lewiston school budget and appreciated the information concerning the budget that was published in the Sun Journal prior to the election.
On Tuesday, May 10, I was surprised to see no mention of the vote in the Sun Journal. After checking the city website, I was reassured that Tuesday was the correct day and went to vote. There was no problem finding a parking space.
In the future, it would be nice if the Sun Journal would use front page space to remind distracted voters of the day of the event. It would also be helpful to publish protocol for absentee voting by those who will be on vacation on June 14.
Finally, when schools are in session for such a vote, perhaps students should be told a bit about how the budget might affect their educational experience and be guided in writing a reminder to their parents regarding the vote.
