Please check in at the table located under the tent for your work assignment. All tools will be supplied, but if you have a favorite pair of work gloves, feel free to wear them.

The Friends of the Shakers, a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers of all ages, from all over the world and all walks of life, was founded in 1974 to assist Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in New Gloucester. The Friends of the Shakers contribute to the village through direct donations, fundraising for restoration and maintenance of the historic buildings, and volunteering at the village.

Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, a National Historic Landmark, is one of Maine’s most important and intact cultural landscapes. It is the only place of its kind where farming, forestry and tourism sustain an active Shaker community. The 1,800 acre property is a key heritage tourism destination in southern Maine and it is included in the National Park Service’s Shaker Historic Trails. The village has 18 historic buildings and structures dating from the 1790s to the 1930s, including the only active Shaker Meeting House.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Sumner Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary will be having its annual yard sale on June 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sumner Fire Department on Route 219 in Sumner.

Donations of gently used items are greatly appreciated, as well as house and/or garden plants. There will also be a “Sun, Sand and Surf” raffle consisting of many items one would use for a day at the beach or at one of our many great Maine state parks. Tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5. The winner will be drawn at the close of the yard sale.
