The personal finance website WalletHub has released its 2016’s Greenest States report.

Maine ranked No. 6 in doing right by Mother Earth.

WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 states in terms of 17 key metrics that speak to the health of the current environment and the environmental impact of people’s daily habits.

It measured total municipal solid waste per capita, energy efficiency and energy consumption from renewable sources, among other things.

Maine was ranked No. 1 in two categories: energy creation from renewable resources and municipal solid waste recycling.

The categories and Maine rankings are:

•   1st: Percentage of energy consumption from renewable sources;

•   1st: Percentage of recycled municipal solid waste;

•   7th: Water quality;

• 13th: Air quality;

• 14th: Energy-efficiency;

• 16th: Carbon dioxide emissions per capita;

• 20th: Number of LEED-certified buildings per capita;

• 20th: Percentage of the population not driving to work;

The five greenest states, according to the report, are :

1. Vermont;

2. Washington;

3. Massachusetts;

4. Oregon;

5. Minnesota.
