1956 – 2016
BOSTON — Dennis Scott Myrick, 59, of Auburn passed away on Thursday, March 17, at Massachusetts General Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born in Lewiston on Nov. 14, 1956, to the late Ida Virginia (Burgess) and Arther Myrick. Dennis was the cherished and beloved and enjoyed being the baby of seven children. Dennis was educated in Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1975. After high school, he attended Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute.
Dennis had long-standing employment with Pioneer Plastics and the Dingley Press. Dennis married Keri (Helms) on Oct. 25,1996, they then settled into their lives at their home in Auburn.
Dennis and Keri’s greatest blessings arrived in 1999 — a son, Quinn Ian Keith Myrick, and in 2001, with daughter Molly Virginia Myrick. Dennis’s greatest joy, pride and love was for Quinn and Molly. Everything Dennis did was for them — to working on a dirt bike for hours on end, to keeping the scoreboard at softball games, to homework.
Dennis had an incredible work ethic — an ethic that all Myrick’s are blessed to have. It was Dennis’ mission to teach his children the values of hard work, honesty and kindness. He could be heard telling Quinn and Molly that a positive attitude is the best thing to have and “it’s all about how you think about things.”
Some of Dennis’s greatest lessons were given to the kids over the past six years. Though he often felt sick and had little energy, he got up at the crack of dawn each day and got dressed. He would set a goal for himself and keep a list. Each day, he would accomplish one thing on the list. He saw the kids off to school each day and waited for them to come home to tell them about their day. Dennis taught our children how to fight the good fight with determination, courage and even on the darkest days, the most amazing sense of humor!
Dennis is survived by his wife, Keri; children, Quinn and Molly; brother, Bruce Myrick and wife, Rita, of Sabattus; sister, Sharon Rafnell of Topsham; sister, Carol Lee Randall of Bowdoinham; sister-in-law, Patricia Myrick of Brunswick; sister-in-law, Debbie Myrick of Portsmouth, N.H.; mother-in-law, Nancy Helms; many nieces and nephews; a very special niece, Susan (Myrick) Martins, “My Suzie,” who was Dennis’ best friend and was always there for him.
He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Harry Myrick, Hal Myrick and Steve Myrick.
Special thanks to all our family and friends for all their kindnesses and love, and a special thank you to Aunt Paula — for everything!
