DIXFIELD — Regional School Unit 10 has contracted for heating oil and diesel fuel, Buildings and Grounds Director Kenny Robbins told the board Monday night.
The district will pay $1.54 per gallon for heating oil and $1.76 for diesel fuel, he said.
In other matters at the meeting, Superintendent Craig King said a teacher retirement incentive has been offered. Teachers who have reached 62 years of age will be offered $5,000 a year for three years. He is uncertain how many teachers may qualify.
The district’s four elementary school principals also presented their first budget figures for 2016-17.
King said a slight increase in student population, particularly at the elementary level, may prompt the need for additional staff.
As of Oct. 1, 2015, the district had a total enrollment of 2,574 students, with 1,239 attending elementary grades. The breakdown was as follows:
Dirigo Elementary School, 367; Hartford-Sumner Elementary School, 329; Meroby Elementary School, 277; Rumford Elementary School, 266; Buckfield Junior-Senior High School, 226; Dirigo Middle School, 153; Mountain Valley Middle School, 279; Mountain Valley High School, 409; and Dirigo High School, 268.
King said negotiations for new contracts for teachers and for the Central Office/technology staff, will begin in the next few weeks.
The board also passed a policy governing the retention, promotion and acceleration of students that gives the superintendent the final say.
The next board meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Meroby Elementary School.
