AUGUSTA — A Maine legislative committee is finished with its work on hearings focusing on the governor’s actions that led an organization to rescind a job offer to a political opponent.
The Government Oversight Committee on Friday attached a summary of its work to go along with an independent report that already was prepared for the committee. The panel will send the full report to lawmakers.
The report indicates LePage put pressure on charter school operator Good Will-Hinckley and that his education commissioner withheld a payment after learning that House Speaker Mark Eves was hired as the organization’s president. Good Will-Hinckley ultimately rescinded the job offer.
The Republican governor’s actions drew criticism from lawmakers who say he overstepped his authority. Eves, a Democrat, has filed a lawsuit in federal court.
