Registration for teams and participants is underway for Maine’s longest, continuous-running, 3-on-3 benefit basketball tournament. Maine’s Credit Unions present the 22nd Annual Dr. Noel Paradise Memorial C-U Swish-Out and Junior Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge. which will take place on Sunday, Jan.17, at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham.
The Swish-Out has three adult divisions: Elite (12-team limit); Just For Fun Recreation Division (36-team limit); and the Forever Young Division, all players must be 40 and older except one; eight-team limit). The minimum age for adult team participation is 17 years of age. There are also three Junior Divisions including a Middle School (open to grades 6-8), a new High School division (open to all students grades 9-12), and a NEW 5/6 Grade Division (all players must be in grades 5 or 6). Space in each division is limited but is currently available for every division.
The tournament is a three-on-three, co-ed, double-elimination event. The entry fee for adult teams is only $125 per team, while the entry fee for any of the three Junior Divisions is only $75 per team. All funds raised go directly to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. Since it began in 1994, more than $320,000 has been raised through the event. The tournament’s first year started with seven teams and raised $575.Last year, the Tournament featured 53 teams and raised a record-setting $32,200.
All participants receive a water bottle and t-shirt. Plaques are awarded to the top four and there is also a Silent Auction held in conjunction with the event. Again, space is limited. For an entry form, sponsorship information and/or for more information, please contact Jon Paradise at the Maine Credit Union League at (207) 773-5671, ext. 273 or e-mail jparadise@mainecul.org.
