TEMPLE — A fire destroyed a shed and its contents, including an all-terrain vehicle and tools, Sunday morning on Route 43.

State fire investigators were at the site Monday trying to determine the cause, Fire Chief Dave True said. The homeowner, Danny Williams, used a garden hose to prevent the flames from spreading to the house that was about 40 feet away, he said.

There is very little left standing of the estimated 16- by 12-foot shed, he said.

Firefighters had to tear off the roof to get at the fire, he said.

The family was evacuated safely from the house, he said.

The shed was insured.

The call came in at 1:13 a.m.

About 20 firefighters from Temple, Farmington, New Vineyard and Wilton responded to the fire. New Sharon Fire Department was on alert and Chesterville Fire Department stood by at the Farmington Fire Rescue Station.

“It was a good turnout for the middle of the night,” True said of the responders.
