As a person who gives credence to ranked-choice voting, I am writing in support — and to express my hope — that ranked choice voting is accepted in Maine.

It has been understood, implemented and well-received by voters across the United States. Australia and Ireland have chosen ranked-choice voting. Support has also come from current and former elected officials across the political spectrum.

Had that system been in use in Maine, the mayoral run-off vote in Lewiston — which created additional expense and took staff time — may not have been necessary.

It is important for voters to research and understand the importance of changing what has not been working well in recent elections in Maine.
