BERWICK (AP) — Police say they are still seeking the driver who struck and killed a disabled veteran’s service dog in Maine.
The Portland Press Herald reports (http://bit.ly/21H0lHM ) that 7-year-old German shepherd named Sophia was hit as her owner was collecting his mail on Cemetery Road in Berwick Saturday afternoon.
Berwick Police Sgt. Jeff Pilkington said the dog’s owner — who got Sophia when she was less than a year old — was not injured.
Officials say the car that struck Sophia is a 1990s-vintage beige or tan sedan. They say the car initially slowed, then sped off toward Pine Hill Road.
Anyone with information is asked to call Berwick police at 207-698-1136.
