DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Woman’s Literary Union of Androscoggin County is asking for help in locating oriental rugs that were stolen from the Foss Mansion in the 1970s. Any information at all would be helpful for our continuing research into this historic house.

Come see where these carpets were stolen and talk to me, Kathy, while enjoying a slice of homemade pie (pecan, lemon meringue, chocolate or coconut cream, and more) plus a hot beverage during our Winterberry Holiday Fair from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Foss Mansion, 19 Elm Street in Auburn. Thanks. — Kathy Lawrence 207-795-6134.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I noticed that LeBlanc’s Cleaners is closed. I was wondering what their plans are for the building. I heard rumors that S. Mary’s was going to buy it. I brought my clothes there for many years and will miss it. — No Name.

RESPONSE: Sun Spots did some research into LeBlanc’s Cleaners which did business on Lafayette Street in Lewiston. The phone is not in service. You did not provide the name of a real estate agency or agent so Sun Spots cannot speculate that the building is for sale. Maybe someone reading this can provide more information. A few other people were wondering about what is going to happen to this building, too. Thanks for asking.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Calling all knitters, sewers, and crafters! Once again the High Street Food Pantry is sponsoring a “Warm Hands for Kids” project and is seeking donations of mittens and hats — knit and fleece — for young people ages 5-15. Large sizes are needed most. We hope to distribute at least 500 pairs of mittens and 500 hats to our clients during the month of January.

Mittens and hats may be dropped off at High Street Church, 106 Pleasant Street, Auburn, on Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays during office hours before Dec. 31. Call Rose at 207-784-1306 ext. 10 or Stephanie at 207-784-1915 if you have questions or need to arrange another time for drop-off.

The Food Pantry is a co-operative effort of five Auburn churches: High Street Congregational Church, United Mehodist Church, St. Michael’s Parish, First Universalist Church, and West Auburn Congregational Church. It serves an average of 240 different family units each month. Thank you for your support of this project. — Stephanie in Auburn.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for all the helpful information you provide. This question concerns the programming updates for a Bear Cat scanner. It used to be possible to get updates for channels at a local Radio Shack. There are no Radio Shacks anymore. Thank you for any help you can give. — No Name in Bethel.

ANSWER: There are still Radio Shack stores open in Maine including one in the Lewiston Mall on East Avenue. However, Sun Spots spoke to staff there who said they do not update Bear Cat scanners. Sun Spots then called Radio Shack at Dyer’s Electronics, 64 Main St. in Mexico who said they do updates on Bear Cat scanners. Good luck!
