SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) — Payment technology company WEX Inc. has announced that it is eliminating 80 positions at its South Portland location.

The move is a part of a plan to restructure its informational technology department to focus on technology development and design. The process will result in the net loss of 25 IT positions next year.

Spokeswoman Trish O’Donnell says the company is also adding 25 new IT jobs. She says it plans to expand its relationship with its IT partner, CSC of Falls Church, Virginia. The relationship is expected to bring 33 IT employees from CSC to Maine.

O’Donnell says the restructuring will take effect in April 2016.

WEX is one of the largest employers in southern Maine, where it employs about 700 people.
