1923 – 2015

He was born on April 28, 1923, in Jay, the son of Joseph and Laura (Guerin) Therrien. He was the middle child of 11 in his family. He attended Jay schools, graduating from high school in 2002 as a veteran. He was a communicant of St. Rose de Lima Church. Francis was with the Civilian Conservation Corps, Chapter 11, in Bridgton, in his younger years along with his older brothers to supplement their family’s income. He served 3 ½ years in the Navy during World War II, aboard the Osmond Ingram in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean Theaters, where he received several Presidential Unit Citations.

He married Lyyli “Lou” Korhonen on June 6, 1949, at St. Rose de Lima Church. They resided on Richardson Avenue, where he dealt in used furniture and antiques. Francis worked for International Paper and later James River as a machine tender, where he retired after 44 years of service. He was active in community groups: International Paper Quarter Century Club, Livermore Falls Historical Society, American Legion, AMVETS Post 33, Desa N.E. Chapter; and was a life member of V.F.W. Post 3335, where he served in the State Color Guard and local Honor Guard.

Family and friends meant a great deal to Francis. He touched many lives with simple acts of kindness. He honored countless veterans through military funerals, played golf through retirement (making a hole in one at age 85), and thoroughly enjoyed his Tuesday afternoon poker games. He will be greatly missed.
