LEWISTON — Police continued the search Friday for a man involved in an altercation at the Lisbon Street McDonald’s that ended up with a shot-out tire on a minivan.

Police Lt. Mark Cornelio said three people, two men from New York and a Lewiston woman, were questioned and released in the incident.

A fourth person, a Hispanic male wearing a white T-shirt bearing an “I Heart Maine” logo, was last seen at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, walking toward Lisbon Street.

Cornelio said the three people questioned Thursday said the incident began inside the restaurant.

“We don’t know what it was about,” Cornelio said. “It was an exchange of glances, like, ‘You looked at me the wrong way.’ That’s what we are understanding, but we haven’t talked to the other person — the one who fled.”

A witness said the three men argued in front of the McDonald’s as the witness waited in the drive-through line. One man pulled a handgun from his pocket and the witness said the three men struggled over the weapon until it discharged.

A bullet from the handgun apparently struck the tire of minivan being driven by the witness’s mother.

The three men fled, two in a car and one on foot.

Two men and a woman were taken into custody minutes later, after the silver Saab with New York license plates in which they were riding was stopped by police on Lincoln Street near South Avenue. A search of the car turned up a handgun.
