1932 – 2015

LEWISTON — Ronald A. Cayer, 83, of Lewiston passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 14, at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston.

He was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on July 27, 1932, a son of the late Roland and Evelyn (Ouellette) Cayer. His family moved to Maine when he was a young boy and he attended Auburn schools. He served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received several medals. In 1958, he married Gilmay Fraser at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston.

Ronald worked for many years at Bates Mill and Advanced Heal and worked as a custodian for the Auburn school department and also at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Ronald was a man who loved his family and believed in working hard to provide for them. His work ethic is seen today in the work ethics of not only his sons and daughters, but in his grandchildren as well. To coworkers, he was known for his humor, his gentleness and his pleasant personality. He walked everywhere with a spring in his step. His family and friends will miss the sound of his whistling, the songs he sang and the little ditties he made up. We will miss forever the sound of him yodeling and his endless knowledge of the TV stars of his generation.

Ron is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gilmay (Fraser) Cayer; his sons, Gerald and wife, Tami, and Mark and his wife, Sue; daughters, Sandy Thompson and husband, Bob, and Lorie Morin and husband, Mike; his grandchildren, Joseph Thompson and husband, John, Jason-Michael Thompson and wife, Cindy, Mark Cayer Jr. and wife, Katrina, Michael Cayer and companion, Hannah, Tom Carr and fiancée, Jen, Chelsea, Ethan and Annie Cayer, and Nicole, Katie and Dale Morin; six great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Robert and Gabriella Thompson, and Kiarra, Mark III and Gavin Cayer; his brothers, Albert and wife, Roberta, and Earnest and wife, Shirley; sisters, Angelina and companion, Ted, and Dolores and husband, Bob; and many, many dear nieces and nephews.

Ron was predeceased by his parents; a twin brother; sister, Rollande and husband, Norm Ebach; and brother, Francis Cayer.

The family wishes to thank the staff at d’Youville Pavilion 4 West. There are those of you who hold a special place in his heart and we knew how well you cared for him.

Condolences may be shared with the family at www.thefortingrouplewiston.com.
