DIXFIELD (AP) — Police say a man is dead and three people were hurt after a crash on state Route 2 in Maine.
Police say the crash happened Saturday afternoon near a state Department of Transportation garage in Dixfield, located about 36 miles northwest of Augusta.
Police say 86-year-old Paul Stucki, of Winslow, crossed the centerline in a Toyota sedan and collided head-on with a second vehicle, driven by 54-old-year June Lauter, of Wisconsin. WGME-TV reports a Ford truck driven by a Topsham man swerved and avoided colliding with the two other vehicles.
Stucki died at a hospital. His wife, Joyce, is in critical condition. Lauter and her passenger, Judith Lohr, suffered multiple fractures but are expected to survive.
Police do not know why Stucki crossed the centerline.
