2014 – 2015

PORTLAND — Colton James-Brian Guay, 20 months old, left us to be with the angels on Monday, Oct. 5.

He was born on Jan. 29, 2014, the beautiful, beloved son of Jon Christopher and Bethann Guay.

Colton lost a valiant battle against HUS, hemolytic uremic syndrome, caused by a severe bacterial infection — and until this disease, he had never been sick a day in his life.

In the short time he was with us, he won the love of everyone who knew him. He was a happy child with an infectious smile and was a very busy boy. He loved to play with his trucks, sing songs, dance to music and read with his mommy. Mommy referred to him as her “funky monkey,” and he would smile and laugh. He loved to help Momma clean. His favorite pastime was to grab his “blankie” and suck his thumb. At night, he loved to sit and rock on his father’s lap, and he was Daddy’s “little buddy.” He especially loved the water, whether it was a bath, the lake or Papa and Mimi’s pool.

Colton is survived by his mother and father; unborn baby sister, Ainsley; his maternal grandmother, Annmarie Farrell of Richmond; his aunt, Mistyann Harrison; cousins, Reese and Bryce of Florida; and his uncle, Dustin Thibodeau of Augusta. On his father’s side, he is survived by his grandparents, Jon and Lucy Guay of Lewiston; his uncle and aunt, Ryan and Kimberly Guay of Auburn; and his cousins, Colby, Jonah, Ariana and Brady Guay. He also leaves his caregivers, Holly and Michael Boivin of Poland, who loved him as their own grandchild. He will be missed by his two German shepherd dogs, Bosco and Lady, who never left his side, and whom he referred to as “Bockey” and “Sissy.”

The family wishes to thank the Pediatric Special Care Unit team of doctors and nurses at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital of Maine Medical Center for their loving, attentive and professional care of Colton. They tried everything in their power to save this little boy.

While Colton was part of the family for less than two years, he will be forever in all our hearts. He taught us all how deeply we can love.
