1927 – 2015
LEWISTON — Kathleen “Kay” Haley Gagnier, 88, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 3, at home, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Lewiston on July 24, 1927, the daughter of Walter E. and Elizabeth G. (Cronin) Haley. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish and graduated from St. Patrick’s Grammar School in 1940 and from Lewiston High School in 1944.
On June 9, 1947, she married Romeo A. Gagnier, who predeceased her on May 15, 2000, after 53 years of marriage.
She worked most of her life in retail except when raising her children. After retiring from JCPenney in 1997, she became a member of the JCPenney Retirement Group, where she would meet other retirees once a month for lunch and to reminisce.
Kathleen enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, knitting, playing cards and going for drives to the ocean. One of her greatest joys in her later years was having an integral role in raising her grandson, Shawn, whose hockey games she loved going to watch.
She is survived by four children, Joan Tucker and her husband, Thomas, of South Carolina, Gregory Gagnier and his wife, Diane, Stephen Gagnier, and Thomas Gagnier, all of Lewiston. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Scott Ouellette and his wife, Jennifer, of South Carolina, Kelley St. Hilaire and her husband, Dennis, and Corey Gagnier and his wife, Cindy, all of Lewiston, and Shawn Gagnier of Lewiston and Missouri. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Drew, Cooper and Daxton St. Hilaire and Josie and Macie Gagnier; and a cousin, Leon Papineau and his wife, Rita, of Minnesota.
She was predeceased by both parents; her husband; an infant sister, Mary Patricia Haley; and her sister, Joan Andresen.
