1931 – 2015
AUBURN — Andre T. Giasson, 84, of Auburn passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday night, Sept. 15, with his family at his side.
He was born in Auburn on May 28, 1931, a son of the late Edward and Lizianne (Lebrun) Giasson. He was a lifelong resident of Auburn, and attended local schools. He had left school at an early age to honorably help support his family by working at Bates Mill and had also worked in various shoe shops as a hand sewer.
On June 20, 1959, he married Alta Donovan at St. Louis Church in Auburn and they started a family together. For most of that time, after Andre had left the mills, he worked at Bath Iron Works as a shipfitter and grinder for 34 years before his retirement in 1998. Even after retirement, he remained active, including working part time as a janitor at Rainbow Credit Union. He and Alta enjoyed traveling around the country with different senior groups, and he was a former member of the First Auburn Seniors.
Andre is survived by his loving wife, Alta of Auburn; his children, Michael Giasson of Brunswick, Brenda Hathaway of Industry, and Pauline Fortin and her husband, Donald Jr., of Lewiston; and his siblings; Adrian Giasson of Lisbon, Raymond Giasson of New Bern, N.C., and Henriette Bergeron of Lewiston. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Gabrielle Hathaway and her companion, Paul, Ophelia Hathaway and her companion, Corey, and Quinn Hathaway and his wife, Samantha, and Matthew Labonte; as well as his great-grandchildren, Presleigh Anthony, Jett Hathaway and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Armand and Maurice; and a sister, Ann Bussiere.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the entire staff of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for their compassion and devotion to Andre’s care in his final days.
