1923 – 2015
LEWISTON — Thelma L. Patry, 92, of Lewiston passed away on Sunday, Sept. 13.
She was born May 18, 1923, in St. Agatha, the daughter of Onezime E. Michaud and Methaide (Marquis) Michaud. She was the youngest of 12 children.
She attended schools in St. Agatha and graduated from Orono High School in 1941. She moved to Lewiston, where she graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1945. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for many years. She was later employed by the Lewiston Health Department as a school nurse, where she cared for children enrolled at Farwell, Martel, Holy Cross and Holy Family elementary schools. She retired from that position in 1973.
Thelma married Norman J. Legendre on May 1, 1948. He passed away on June 18, 1969. She later married Francis J. Patry on Oct. 6, 1973. He passed away on Sept. 15, 2005.
Thelma enjoyed fishing, tennis, planting and working in her flowers, time spent with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and spending summers at her cottage on Thompson Lake in Poland.
She is survived by a son, Richard Legendre and his wife, Joan, of Lewiston; two stepdaughters, Louise Beecher of Madison, Conn., and Diane Patry of Boston, Mass.; three grandchildren, Kathleen Bianco and husband, Brian, of Orland Park, Ill., Lisa Legendre of Lewiston, and Rachel Legendre, also of Lewiston; two stepgrandchildren, Francis Beecher of Williamsburg, Iowa, and William Beecher of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Anna Bianco, and Evan Bianco of Orland Park, Ill.; one sister, Sr. Solange Michaud, Daughter of Wisdom, of Ottawa, Ontario; and her brother-in-law, Raymond Legendre of Lewiston.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion and the nurses and staff at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice for the wonderful care given to Thelma.
