1944 – 2015

SOUTH PARIS — Bradford A. Kimball, 71, of Norway, died Monday, Sept. 14, at Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.

Born May 31, 1944, in Bridgton, to Agnes Knight and Alton Kimball, he was lovingly raised by John and Hazel Raymond in Otisfield. He attended school in Otisfield and graduated from Norway High School in 1963.

Right after high school, he entered the U.S. Navy and faithfully served his country for four years.

He met Phyllis L. Varney and her five daughters in 1969. They became a family when he and Phyllis were married on March 3, 1971. He bought their first home on the Coldwater Brook Road in Oxford, where they lived for many years. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Lorie, in November 1974. They also raised their beloved grandson, Scott Legere.

Brad worked for St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railroad for more than 20 years as well as Dielectric, Mike’s Place, and The Progress Center, Inc.

Brad was busy from sun-up to sundown. He always cut his own firewood as well as other people’s firewood. He would frequently mow the neighbors’ lawns and plow their snow. That’s who he was — very giving of himself.

His hobbies included yard sales, picking fiddleheads and blackberries, taking his beloved dogs for a ride, coffee visits with friends and family and of course, cutting firewood.

He could never pass up a good deal, whether he needed the item or not. He was a simple man who led a simple life and rarely threw anything away. He firmly believed in right and wrong, honesty and never taking the easy way out. He worked hard for everything he had. Brad lived life to the fullest and never took anything for granted. He will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.

Brad is predeceased by his wife, Phyllis; his grandson/son, Scott, his father, John; his birth parents; his sister, Alice Demers; a brother, Larry Kimball; and his granddaughter, Casey Chretien.

He is survived by his daughter, Lorie and her husband, Kevin O’Neil, of West Paris; his mother, Hazel Raymond of Otisfield; five stepdaughters, Mary and her husband, Robert King, of Schenectady, N.Y., Carol Palmer of Jay, Susan and her husband, Jeffery Herrick, of South Paris, Brenda and her husband, Tom Rowe, of Mechanic Falls, and Teri and her husband, Jeffrey Chretien, of Farmington; three sisters, Bertha and her husband, Richard Thurlow, Susie and her husband, David Ackerman, and Nelda and her husband, David DeMerritt; four brothers, David Raymond and his wife, Mary, Larry Raymond, Ron and his partner, Jody, and Ralph Stone; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
