DEAR SUN SPOTS: Good news for the people who were looking for Mountain Blend coffee by Nescafe. It has not been discontinued. It is now available at Food City in Turner. Nothing like a good cup of coffee to start the day off! Also, Karen the hair stylist has returned to the hair salon at Wal-Mart. This column is so handy for so many people. Keep up the great work. — An avid reader.

HI SUN SPOTS: Are there any limits as to age and weight for donating blood? Thanks for all you do. — No Name via email.
ANSWER: The American Red Cross states: You must be at least 17 years old to donate to the general blood supply, or 16 years old with parental/guardian consent, if allowed by state law. Persons under the age of 17 may, however, donate blood for their own use in advance of scheduled surgery or in situations where their blood has special medical value for a particular patient such as a family member. There is no upper age limit for blood donation as long as you are well and with no restrictions or limitations to your activities.
You must weigh at least 110 pounds to be eligible for blood donation for your own safety. Students who donate at high school drives and donors 18 years of age or younger must also meet additional height and weight requirements for whole blood donation (applies to girls shorter than 5 feet 6 inches and boys shorter than 5 feet.
Blood volume is determined by body weight and height. Individuals with low blood volumes may not tolerate the removal of the required volume of blood given with whole blood donation. There is no upper weight limit as long as your weight is not higher than the weight limit of the donor bed or lounge you are using.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I know you have answered this question before, but I never had a need for the information until now. Is there someone who accepts furs and fur pieces to recycle into teddy bears or other things? I am not interested in having anything made; I just to give the furs away to someone who will use them.
Also, what is a person to do with college textbooks? Is the only option to discard them into the recycling container? Thank you. No Name, No Town. 207-786-4683.
ANSWER: Sun Spots hopes you hear from some nonprofits about the fur. As for the college textbooks, you can check with colleges near you to see if they have any use for those books in their libraries.
