LEWISTON — Ward 4 candidate Benjamin Martin said he hopes to bring new ideas to the School Committee.
“I am excited to bring new blood to the School Committee and look forward to speaking with parents and voters in Ward 4 to discuss their concerns about the Lewiston school system,” Martin said.
Martin is challenging incumbent James R. Handy. Handy is the current committee chairman.
“The rollout of Proficiency-Based Learning has been very discouraging for the Class of 2018, and our elementary schools are overcrowded,” Martin said. “I believe things work best in a positive environment, and it seems morale in the Lewiston schools is at an all-time low. Lewiston students, parents and teachers deserve better than this.”
Martin was born in Lewiston and is the son of Lewiston High School alumni. He attended Montello Elementary School for his first two years of school before moving to the Livermore Falls public school system.
He has an associate degree in business administration from Kaplan University and is a residential manager for group homes that provide support to adults with developmental disabilities.
