DIXFIELD — Almost two months after organizing a heavy metal festival at the Mountain View Campground, resident Donald Litwin is looking to attract country music fans.

Litwin said A Day of Country will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 12 at the campground.

“The heavy metal festival was all right,” Litwin said Friday. “It’s not really the kind of music that caters to people around here. This event is a lot different. I’m guessing it’s going to bring more people.”

During a July selectmen meeting, Police Chief Jeff Howe said he favored the country music festival. He said Litwin had good intentions and wanted to do something good for the town.

Litwin said tickets are $7 in advance, or $10 at the gate.

“With the heavy metal festival, we were trying to raise money for the campground, since they got robbed last year,” Litwin said. “With this festival, the money is going to the bands. I just want to try and get people to visit the town of Dixfield.”

The bands performing include:

* Troy Allen Band, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

* American Ride, 1:30 to 4 p.m.

* Sarah Dunton, 5 to 6:30 p.m.

* The Tyler Healy Band, 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Litwin said several food vendors will be set up at the festival, including Nick’s Smoked Barbecue, Doug’s Dogs, No View Farm and Bakery and Maine Shore Lobster Bakes.

He said people who wish to purchase tickets in advance can call him at 562-4669. They may also call No View Farm and Bakery, visit Doug’s Dogs on Main Street or call the Mountain View Campground at 562-8285.

Depending on how popular the country music festival is, Litwin said that he would like to hold “two or three festivals a year in Dixfield.”
