1957 – 2015
SANDUSKY, Ohio — Joseph Robert “Bob” Sevit, 57, died on Friday, Aug. 21, after a short battle with ALS, surrounded by family.
He was born in Detroit, Mich., on Dec. 26, 1957, to Richard and Theresa (Custeau) Sevit. Bob was the middle of three children. He attended local schools before graduating from Edward Little High School in 1976. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served active duty from 1976 to 1980. He served as a maintenance technician in HC-6 Chargers unit and worked on CH-46 Chinook helicopters. Once he left the Navy, he went to work for Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines as a maintenance manager, as well as National Airlines as a maintenance inspector. In 2014 he finally moved on to work for the FAA which was the pinnacle of his aviation career.
He had one son, Kelin, who was his pride and joy. In 1996, Bob met the love of his life, Debra, and finally married her on August 17, 2015. Bob was an avid sports fan cheering on all the Detroit sports teams and the University of Michigan. He also loved airplanes, aviation, collecting sports cards and hockey memorabilia with his son.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Sevit of Ohio; his son, Kelin Sevit of Georgia; stepchildren, Carly Schlotterer of Michigan and Ben Schlotterer of Ohio; his sister, Tina and her husband, Peter Higgins, of Portland; his brother, Brian and his wife, Vivian Sevit, of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.
