1940 – 2015
PORTLAND — Georgette M. Fox of Farmington passed away peacefully in Portland on Friday, Aug. 7, after a long period of declining health.
She was born in Lewiston on Aug. 1, 1940, the daughter of Laureat and Imelda Rancourt. She lost her father at a young age and attended boarding school on weekdays at the Marcotte Home in Lewiston while her mother worked to support the family. She had fond memories of growing up with the sisters.
Georgette went to high school for two years at St. Dominic High School and graduated from Lewiston High School with the Class of 1958. She worked for International Candy and FX Marcotte Furniture after school.
Georgette would spend a lot of time at the Rollodrome in Auburn, where she met Ronald E. “Foxy” Fox. They married in 1963 and together they had a daughter, Kelly. She moved to Poland in 1976 with her daughter after she divorced and started working at Central Maine Charter and Century 21 Guilmette Realty as secretary and bookkeeper. She moved to Lewiston in 1983, and to Farmington in 1995 to be closer to her family. She worked as a housekeeper at Orchard Park and The Pierce House until she retired in 2007.
She had a sharp wit and enjoyed reading, crosswords, comedy TV, loving her many cats throughout the years, spending time at the ocean and fried clams at the Chick-A-Dee. She was very proud of her French-Canadian heritage and ability to speak French.
Georgette is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Fox) Gray and her husband, Scott, of Chesterville; granddaughters, Megan Gray, Erin Gray and her husband, Kevin Lind; a special great-grandson, Christopher Ryan Smith of Chesterville; cousin, Doris Violette; friendly neighbor, Marcia Mattor; and kitty companion, Minounne. She was predeceased by her parents; godmother, Marguerite Chaloux; and infant daughter, Julianna Fox.
