POLAND — The second time proved a charm as voters Tuesday approved Regional School Unit 16’s proposed $20.6 million budget by a vote of 203-184.

The votes by town were: Mechanic Falls 60-33; Minot 37-32; and Poland 106-119.

The 2015-16 budget is about $82,000 less than the one voters rejected June 9 but about $650,000 more than the 2014-15 budget.

Voter turnout was also lower the second time around. A total of 387 residents cast ballots Tuesday, compared to 497 for the June referendum.

Property tax impact varies in the three towns. In Mechanic Falls, taxes on a property assessed at $100,000 are estimated to increase by $10.45. In Minot, the increase will be $18.65 and in Poland, it will be $21.49.
